A few pics from the week. I’m starting to use the camera on my phone more since it’s the only picture taking device thats on me at all times. The images always need a lot of editing though cause the colours and quality straight from the phone are puke worthy. But after using a few of the instagram inspired action filters by dbox, they look so much prettier!

Maybe it’s time for me to get a smartphone, with a GPS which would have been incredibly useful today during my 2 hour walk around the city. I got to the belvedere viewpoint but got completely lost after that on my way to the Mont-Royal viewpoint. Oh well, the goal of this walk was simply to get some exercise, so it was all good despite where I ended up in the end.

I was walking through the dollarama and saw a cupcake carry box! I’m sure these have been around for a while and I probably just never realized, but seeing it made me giddy. I didn’t get one though cause I never carry my cupcakes outside of the house, I just don’t have that kind of patience and just gobble them down in my room the moment they have icing on. I walked by a new cupcake store recently and am curious to try them out and see if they match up to the ones my ma makes. I like their little sign and thought the location of the store was perfect: right bellow the balcony with the always watching pink flamingo.

I was getting a bit frustrated with my school situation right now, so I decided to occupy myself with something that required my complete and full attention: sewing buttons. But before doing that, I looked at the second-hand shirt I wanted to work on and realized why I was never inclined to wear it very often. It was huge and even though I found it in the shirts section of a thrift store, it looks like a pyjama. I can’t remember why I decided to get it, probably cause I like the dots and it cost me 5 dollars.

Nevertheless, I decided it needed a revamp. So with my very limited sewing skills, I turned the pyjama shirt into a sleeveless blouse! You can’t really tell but if you look closely, the sewing is obviously not perfect even though I followed the instructions of a pro (aka ma, my mom). But I’m quite happy with it. The whole process was also easy. I just used a fitted shirt that I already owned and used it as a guide pattern. Then cut, sew and iron and it was done. It’s easy and sounds quick, but for me it took at least 2 hours, just cause the sewing machine is a complicated contraption that I have difficulties understanding. My ma also added an extra button opening at the top, and I switched the buttons from the purple ones they came with to simple navy ones I had laying around. Seriously, I have tons of buttons from a previous project in my room, I need to find something to do with them.

I just got back from this year’s graphic design vernissage at my school and they also announced the winner of the video contest that Andrew and I applied for with our Magic vid.

We won second place! Obviously the prize of the gold envelope is significantly better, but I am very much satisfied with the nice silver one.

One of my cousins is taking care of my other cousin’s corgi, and when she texted me about this little pup, I rushed over with my camera. As well as being really adorable (must be the ears), she’s definitely a little princess. She usually won’t listen to anyone unless there’s food or a toy involved and sometimes it seems like she doesn’t even recognize her own name. But once she laid at my feet, rolled over and looked at me asking for a tummy rub, all was forgotten.

A few lovely finds that have ben on mind as of late. The print of that Zara dress is gorgeous and I love the simple cut, but I’m not yet at that part of my life where I can justify spending over 100$ on a dress I’d barely wear. I’m more likely to spend my money on something like tacos.

Today marks the postmark deadline of the 2012 Limited Edition Sketchbook Project. I sent mine out on friday, but it was bittersweet since I was letting go of my first completed sketchbook ever. Because of my perfectionist character, lack of confidence, fear of the blank page, and most likely just lack of motivation and constant lazyness, I always gave up on a sketchbook before finishing it.

But I’m proud to say I completed this one. Mind you, the sketchbook was only about 14 spreads and I didn’t have time to add more because I was one of the last few hundred people to sign up for the project, but it’s still a personal achievement for myself. Now I can check this off my list of things that makes me less of a lazy bum.

I like to believe that my life is interesting enough for me to say that I enjoy spending my afternoons with an adorable cup of tea or coffee while enjoying scrumptious cake or cookies… but I don’t, which is why outings like these are so much fun. A quaint little café that was just right for a meet-up with a friend. Not only does De farine et d’eau fraîche have lovely decorated sweets to go along with your tea or coffee, but they also offer sandwiches that look as good as they taste. The floral plates and tea cups also add to the whole “afternoon tea” feeling.

I’m probably the only one who’s odd like this but despite getting it because of it’s cute shape, I was hesitant to start eating my strawberry cat cookie and I couldn’t decide which part of it’s body I should eat first. Eventually, I went for “the kill” and every bite of it was delicious, from the tip of it’s tail all the way up to it’s ears.

Big in Japan’s secret bar

4175 Boulevard Saint-Laurent

The door that leads to this candlelight, beautiful, chic looking bar is hardly the one you’d expect. The entrance is a red door covered in graffiti and there is no obvious sign indicating that the door leads to a bar other than the nearly unnoticeable writing on the door’s window. And really, unless you overheard the word of mouth going around about this bar, you would have passed the door without a second thought. It doesn’t help that the door opens up to a dark hallway leading to heavy curtains. Going down that hallway feels like you’re about to get yourself in some sort of trouble. If I were to pick a crime, I’d say organ trafficking. At least, that’s the impression the door gives off.

However, when you cross those curtains, you end up stumbling on a lovely secret: Big in Japan‘s actual bar. Since the Big in Japan I had visited in January is more of a restaurant than somewhere to just get drinks, we were excited to go see the actual bar, and it was much different from what we expected. The restaurant feels more laid-back and casual, while the bar, with it’s dark curtains, soft candlelight and bow-tie waiters, feels more sophisticated.

Both have their own charms and the drinks were delicious. I didn’t actually have a pretty drink to myself, only tried out what others ordered. I had already consumed enough alcohol by eight o’clock after one glass of sake, so it was best to hold back. My tolerance level is laughable, but i get happy easily.

The weather this past weekend was so… pleasant. I have not taken the time to switch my wardrobe to spring and I’m still skeptical of this warm weather because I expect it to switch back to abnormal cold temperatures anytime soon. But it actually seems like the spring weather is here to stay. So I took advantage of it and walked around downtown, specifically going out to see the PAPIER 12 exhibition. I kinda expected it to be more papercraft artwork instead of artworks on paper. But inspiration is inspiration in whatever form, and it gave me the perfect reason to go out in the sun.
